|
|
Tuesday, 23 October 2007 |
|
Install the PHPlist Registration Component - If you wish to only use the module you don't need to use this as your default registration component but you need to have it installed.
- PHPlist ID = ID for the MAIN list Id (in PHPlist) Where you want your users to subscribe to
-PHPlist Events List ID = ID for the second list (if required)
(should call it "Second list" for the next release)
-Attribute
ID = In order for you to insert the name of the subscriber you need to
create what's known in phplist as an attribute. Here you insert the ID
for that attribute
In order for our extensions to work your Joomla and Phplist Database users must be the same!
Step 1: Sample Configuration of PHP list Component

Step 2: After installation of the Subscriber Module, you need to fill out the basic configuration parameters.

After you've published the module go to the Joomla's Frontend and test it:

In PHPlist Backend:

Hope it helps!

Free Joomla Templates - Are they worth it? |
|
|
Tuesday, 16 October 2007 |
|
One of the first thing people start doing right after installing Joomla is start looking for Free Joomla Templates!.
If you're an experienced Joomla user you'll notice that - no offense to
those template makers- but most of them simply don't cut it. Key word here being most. But hey, they're free and many people find them useful.
If you're a new Joomla user, you may think that all Joomla templates
follow the same two and three layout standards that was inherited from
Mambo. I remember when I first started using Joomla and I started
showing a large collection of primitive Joomla templates to my boss, he
said: they're all the same design the only difference is in the
colours, and that was true at that time. It was a list of one of the earliest template clubs available for Joomla. It was easy to take a glance at a website and noticed it was made in Joomla or Mambo.
Nowadays, Joomla templates have evolved quite a lot - and we've seen a very
healthy evolution in the way Joomla templates are designed. But most of this Joomla Themes or Templates are being offered by what's known as Joomla template clubs. Joomla template clubs require a membership in order to enjoy the benefits of downloading premium Joomla templates.
If you're looking to develop a personal website, it's very easy to find what you're looking for free! - but as a Joomla professional or a person who demands the very best you're obliged to create your own templates or Join a template club. I prefer the second choice, as this usually gives me more time to spend on what I consider more important - focusing on content.
There are many Joomla Template clubs available on the net, -it seems like every 2 months there's a new template club-, which is excellent for the Joomla Community as these clubs provide desing variety and support of the CMS we love the most: Joomla!
If you're new to Joomla and looking for Free Joomla templates take a look at the following websites: www.Joomlart.com, www.Rocketheme.com , www.Joomlashack.com and Yootheme. You won't find free templates there but they're totally worth the money! believe me. At least check their demo and you'll see.

Constant "Admin Session Expired" error or no sessions persist in Joomla |
|
|
Wednesday, 10 October 2007 |
|
Many of us have encountered an issue with the admin session in web servers that are not optimized to run Joomla. Please read below to find out more details about the admin session expired problem.
Problem:
- You can login to the front end but not the backend or
- Your admin session doesn't persist
You do NOT receive an incorrect username/password message - you are just dumped back to login screen.
Cause:
This may be due to save_session_path not being writable on the webserver.
Solution:
To overcome this issue,
1. request your web host to allow save_session_path, or
2. Create a folder chmod (777); put it above your /public_html/ or /wwwroot/ folder and add to your .htaccess file this line:
php_value session.save_path '/herepath/to/Jooma/newwriteablefolder'
the path to Joomla should be the same as your mosConfig_absolute_path with the additional folder added. No trailing backslash added
